Grotto

A bright grotto–a contemporary abstraction of nature–is the design concept for this underground washroom. Sustainability, spatial sculpting, human comfort drive the design. The grotto retains the original layout, uncovers two round, tilted square columns to form a unique white mass; seamless curve surfaces diffuse light and omit dirty edges. Plants, irrigated by filtered greywater, purify the air, add life and colors. The original sandstones are crushed as gold aggregates of the new terrazzo floor. Integrated tap-hand dryer, waterless urinal and toilet largely reduce water-use and waste.

Samsara

Using meaningless materials to form well designed objects, Samsara bridges the gap from passive products to meaningful discussions. Samsara began as an idea to create subtle awareness about the wildlife of the world and the issues they face. Through its unique material use of large herbivore poop and mushroom mycelium, paired with a welcoming, organic form, Samsara invites users and observers to engage with this planter and its story. This unobtrusive approach makes individuals more willing to participate and be inspired to make a difference.

Earthwood

Earthwood integrates sustainable construction technology with traditional building design methods. The architectural composition comprises four main principles of sustainability, i.e. the Fertile Ground, the Green Canopy, the Earth Wall and the Wood House. The use of renewable energy sources and natural recyclable materials including structural cross laminated timber and stabilized rammed earth, creates a unique architectural experience by reducing the ecological footprint as well as ensuring an enduring positive impact on communities and on the environment.

TWISTY

Twisty is an evolution for solar power generation as well as shading system. No longer do one needs to install solar panels as Twisty's fabric is a photovoltaic cell itself. During the day it shades you from the sun while at night it give you light in your own home. It is entirely windproof as when it opens progressively, the helix structure becomes stronger and stronger. All controllable via wireless application so you can just relax and watch Twisty in motion.

Forest Lodge ECO House

As the surrounding properties reflected the history of the heritage area, this new house on a vacant block, added to that timeline, by not trying to re create the past, but to forge its place in the present showcasing the best of contemporary design ideas. Eco-design principals were used to create intelligent innovative design of which the heat core storage cell was an Australian first. Many of the systems were custom designed and built specifically for this house, providing innovation not yet tested or seen in Australia.
